Atif Aslam enthralls Karachiites

By Saima Munir

The weekends have always been a source of pleasure and comfort and a symbol of entertainment sessions after a week-long span of labour and job-stress. The last weekend was really a memorable one for the people of Karachi, particularly the youngsters, who were endowed with an opportunity to witness special live performance of the great pop singer Atif Aslam. The grand gala, hosted by PTV Karachi Centre, was arranged at DHA Creek Club’s green lawn. Besides Atif Aslam, Sara Raza, Israr and Mehvish Hayat also enthralled the audience with their live performance. The audience comprised senior TV& Film Stars, media icons, socialites, political personalities, senior officials and people from other walks of life.

Sara Raza sang some Indian songs and of her special item that is a part of an upcoming Pakistani movie. The Coke Studio fame Israr performed on two of his Sufi songs that infused a great spirit into the veins of the crowd. Mehvish Hayat performed with her newly formed band on her own songs. Her sister, a vocalist basically, accompanied her with full rhyme and rhythm. Atif bagged huge applause from his fans and lovers for singing and twisting live continuously for more than an hour. The youth supported the star enthusiastically with dancing and twisting all the time and added colours to the show. Apart from his iconic numbers like “tera honay laga hoon”, “Maahi way”, “Who lamhay”, “Ham kis gali ja rahay hain” and others, Atif also sang Adnan Sami’s “Bheegi Bheegi”. With his new and changed look, wearing the same dress he had used in a popular TV advertisement, he was looking very attractive and young. The crowd thronged to the spaces closed to the stage after the arrival of Atif.

There were a few drawbacks associated to this, otherwise, a successful spree of entertainment and melodious pleasure. The show kicked off three hours late, as usual, and made the huge crowd desperate to see Atif and they went on chanting the slogans “We want Atif”, undermining and spoiling the performance of other singers who preceded the main star. Ayesha Omer, who was the host of Ali Zafar’s live concert held at the same venue, last year, rendered her services again in the same capacity, but could not do justice with her performance, once again. Let us hope to see a positive change in the next such event.
