Ahmed Zoy is no more

Ahmed Zoy, Lahore based painter breathed his last on Thursday July 10, 2014. Answering a question, a few years ago Zoy had said: "After disowning my Recognized Political Refugee status, (Asyl-be richtiger Annerkant) and an illustrator's job with seventh U.S. Army training commands in Germany I returned home hoping that I could paint and exhibit my work. Being unhappy, I split again to Mare Mediterrano. I wanted to do my Art. "I Fenici" is the exhibition about Phoenicians at Palazzo Grassi, Venezia. I almost cried out, this is all about me, about Indus. Later to Serviette, Pompeii, Ercolano, vesuvio, to Etruski Excavations- Dante dreams. She works on the origin of Greeks, and the Ancient Latin. I search for comparative words in Hindku, Seraiki and Punjabi. Fascinating similarities - it must have travelled from Indus.

"I was drawing mango faced females, later I went to Sri Lanka and discovered that history, Anuradhapuram Goddess Patini was born out of a ripe mango (Amba) the mango tree was brought to Lanka by Ashoka Putra Arhat Mahinda from Taxila. I was happy about that Indus dream, to identify myself with Indus lands, discovering my roots in Harappan Pantheon.

It took me so many years to know that all Ancient Buddhist scriptures were written in Pali. That is Hindku the language of seven Rivers 'Pani' not the Abb not Five. They never taught me my history. Ashoka was not an alien king. I do not want to be happy, I want to be quiet. I want to do my Art."
In the light of what Zoy said, it became easier to understand his canvases apparently. To discover his anger, dissatisfaction, and unhappiness, the viewer had to scratch the paints and discover Zoy's personality beneath the paints- buckets full of green, red, yellow, blue and a modest white. The torn off flesh, and the disjointed bones of the female form, whose figurine could be traced to the 5000BC Indus valley people, showed the anguish of the artist. He found lines and paints insufficient to express what he wanted to say. Zoy had opted for a difficult language to express his emotions. Tool of words made the expression easier, understandable, and logical; this relieved the torment of the writer as an artist.
